The Alaska Sea

PandatariafilmThe Alaska Sea

Project details

On a boat fully-equipped to explore the Polar seas, an expedition sets out from Juneau in the direction of Sitka, a small village of fishermen on the Southern coast of Alaska, founded at a time when the Russians governed the area.
During the expedition we come across a great variety of animals and plant life typical of the area: such as whales, brown bears and salmon. The voyage continues through the “inside passage”, bordered by glaciers and big icebergs. The kelp forests and the walls of Alcyonaria have become the home of a great many inhabitants of these waters: small nudibranchs, but also the chimaera and the Atlantic Wolf-fish, that from deep down in the depths come up to the more superficial stratum of Alaskan waters. A lack of water is one of the world’s biggest emergencies today, and the resources available in this area will probably turn out to be more precious than the goldmines of long ago..
