San Polo di Tarano: the village
Pandataria Film srl is located inside an old castle in a very unusual medieval village in the Lower Sabina area. It belongs to the municipal of Tarano (RI). San Polo castle can be traced back to January 1102, where it is mentioned in documents of the House of Farnese.
A lot of property and wealth in the San Polo area once belonged to the Monastery of St. Andrea in Flumine, and were concentrated around the “unholy” archipresbiteral church of St. Vittoria. In 1368, the castle “was invested with a fee” by Pope Urbano V to Francesco and Buccio Orsini, sons of the dead dean of the Giordano heritage. The Orsini family somehow managed to keep the castle until it was expropriated by the Marquise of Stimigliano after Enrico Orsini’s death. In 1871, San Polo became a fraction of Montebuono and was inhabited by 235 people. It later became a fraction of Collevecchio and was inhabited by 307 people in 1853 , 54 of whom lived in the countryside; 63 families in 67 houses.
How to reach us
– From Rome: take the A1 in the direction of Florence until you reach Ponzano Romano-Soratte. Follow the directions to Stimigliano. After going through Stimigliano Scalo, follow the directions to Tarano. You will find San Polo just before Tarano. Total distance: 60 kms from Roma Nord, 80 kms from Roma Sud.
– From Florence: take the A1 in the direction of Rome until you get to Magliano Sabina. Follow the directions to Tarano. You will find San Polo just before Tarano. Total distance: 230 km.
– From Rome: take the regional line FR1 Fiumicino Airport-Orte, departures from Tiburtina Station and other smaller stations. Get off at Stimigliano (time approx. 1 hour).
There is a train every hour from 5.45 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. from the Tiburtina Station; more information can be found on the website www.trenitalia.it by selecting “All Trains” on the menu.
– From Florence: Intercity or Fast Regional line from Firenze SMN or Firenze Rifredi to Orte, get off here and take line FR1 for Fiumicino Airport and get off at Stimigliano. Journey time: a little longer than 3 hours.
Alternative route: take the Frecciarossa/Frecciargento or an “Italo” train to Rome Tiburtina Station, and then take line FR1 for Orte and get off at Stimigliano. Journey time approx. 2.30 hours.
Fiumicino Airport (RM) is 90 kms away from San Polo. By car, take motorway Roma-Fiumicino until you reach the GRA (the ring road), then keep driving on the GRA in the direction of Aurelia/Florence. Take the A1 in the direction of Florence until you reach Ponzano Romano-Soratte. Follow the directions to Stimigliano. After going through Stimigliano Scalo, follow the directions to Tarano. You will find San Polo just before Tarano.
Campino Airport (RM) is 75 kms away from San Polo. By car, take the GRA (ring road) in the direction of Florence and then the A1 until you reach Ponzano Romano-Soratte. Follow the directions to Stimigliano. After going through Stimigliano Scalo, follow the directions to Tarano. You will find San Polo just before Tarano.
