Project details
Ebru Pinarbasi returns to his hometown after many years away. Memories and the discovery of feelings linked to his family life intertwine with visits to the places which best represent the identity and recent history of Turkey. During the First World War, Çanakkale and the Gallipoli peninsula, were places where the first Turkish nationalistic feelings began to move in the direction of creating one nation; this documentary illustrates the sequence of events of this very important time through the eyes of Ebru Pinarbasi, which gives them a personal touch. Also included in the itinerary is Istanbul, a city which bears a multiple historical heritage and symbolises the peaceful co-existence of Eastern and Western lifestyles. In view of the fact that Turkish policy has expressed a desire to become part of the European Union, how contemporary is the legacy of the Turkish Republic’s founding father, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk?
