Project details
Following in the footsteps of a pilgrim called Thomas, we travel the road of St. Francis of Assisi to take a look at the places that were so dear to him. St. Francis is the patron saint of Italy and the protector saint of the natural world.
Our journey takes us along the pathways and through the great valleys that cross the province of Riete, and to the places that St. Francis used as a provisional home between 1208 and 1226. Thomas’ journey ends on the top of Mt. Terminillo where the majestic temple dedicated to St. Francis was built when he was elected patron saint of Italy. Two very different, and yet strangely similar, spiritual journeys are compared. On the one hand the saint’s life and on the other hand the modern visitor, Thomas the pilgrim. Steps that explore man, nature and life itself and evoke the reasons that inspired these two men at a distance of 800 years to cross the magnificent Reatina countryside in search of a spirituality and a simplicity that today, as yesterday, is lacking from everyday life: the opulence of Bernardone’s house for St. Francis and the frenetic life of today for Thomas, the pilgrim.
