The Republic of the Maldives is made up of a group of atolls situated in the Indian Ocean and offers unique underwater landscapes, where life has evolved to such an extent that it has created an extremely complex equilibrium. The existence of all the organisms present in these waters is sustained by one and the same thing because each single organism relies for its survival on the overall well-being of the ecosystem that supports it. Even the slightest change could actually destroy their entire habitat. The recent phenomenon of colour-bleaching, a result of global warming, doesn’t only confirm this hypothesis, but is also a sign that greater care and awareness is needed to ensure that the treasures of the coral reef can go on being admired.
